The 2020 Benton Central FFA Ag Alumni Auction

Picture
Through the efforts of FFA Alumni members, friends of FFA, FFA members, parents and others, over the last 45 years, nearly $400,000 has been raised to support local FFA programs.  In addition an estimated 225 Senior FFA members have received "Auction Scholarships" for post secondary training.  Auction scholarships have ranged from $500 to $2500 and have allowed many students to pursue their educational goals.

The auction began as the idea of Dan Kerkhoff.  Through his insistence, the first year's auction in 1974 taught us what the cooperative efforts of our supporters could accomplish. Starting in 1974 with our first sale cried by local auctioneering legend Clarence Van Schepen, we have progressed through the generosity of local auction crews, the FFA Alumni Chapter, and our FFA parents. For twenty five years Larry Scherer and his auctioneer partner Bill Decker were the important auctioneer volunteers who took the auction from the small beginnings to a very successful activity.

Today's FFA Auctions are a happening.  Over 2,000 people crowd the paved Benton Central School parking lot.  Many just to talk, others to find a great deal.  In 2013 we checked in well over 2,000 items and recorded nearly 1,000 buyers.  Items range from farm equipment to livestock equipment and from trees and shrubs to lawn care items.  Lunch is served by the FFA Alumni with school facilities open for a social lunch with fellow buyers.

This year's auction is Saturday, March 28, 2020 at 9:00 AM EST.  Don't miss the fun and excitement of 46th Benton Central FFA Alumni Auction!

Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped at the auction.  We had over 1800 items  and over 700 trees, shrubs, and perennials. As well as over 890 buyers registered for the 2019 auction.

We are looking forward to this year's Benton Central FFA Alumni Auction on Saturday, March 28, 2020!

How Can You Participate?

You can play an important role with us in our 2019 sale.  Planning committee slots are open for all types of involvement.  You may do as much or as little as you like.  Donations of materials are as valuable to us as donations of time.  If you are interested and would like to become involved call the Benton Central Agriculture Department or Alumni President Mark Flook.

Our FFA Advisor, our FFA members, and Alumni members, FFA parents, and friends all join together to plan, advertise, check in items, unload and load items, auctioneer, clerk the sale, cook and sell food, and clean up afterwards.

This is a HUGE undertaking and we are very thankful for all of our generous help.  Our sale wouldn't work without the efforts of all of our volunteers.  We thank everyone for helping to make our sales so successful!
